Description
Cogon leaves are used for thatching houses and the source of pulp for
handmade papermaking. Stems are for hats, mats, baskets, fruit trays,
chairs, and tables. Cogon dried leaves are for placemats, wall decoration
and Venetian blinds.
Cogon grass is a perennial and rhizomatous grass that grows from 2 to over
4 feet in height. The leaves are about an inch wide having a prominent
white midrib, and end in a sharp point. Leaf margins are finely toothed and
are embedded with silica crystals.
